Summary:
The FRA method provides comprehensive and unique information about the mechanical and electrical integrity of the active part of transformers. For taking advantage of the potential of this method, certain knowledge bases are necessary in order to assist the automatic process of diagnosis. In this work such bases are presented from the point of view of the understanding of the waveform of the plots and from the standpoint of assessment of the results. Moreover, an attempt for the characterization of different failure modes by using transformer-specific sub-bands is also provided as well as an overview to the effects of the factors affecting the repeatability of FRA results. At the end the formulation of algorithms for automatic detection of abnormalities and its relationship to the development of an expert system is presented.
